Move to Portugal with a passive income visa (D7)
If you are looking to retire, or have income coming in from outside Portugal, the D7 offers a simple and inexpensive route into the country. You must have at least €760 / month of passive income to qualify for this visa type.
As with the Golden Visa, you can qualify for Portuguese citizenship and a full European passport after 5 years. However, where you do not need to live in Portugal to qualify for citizenship under the Golden Visa, you must live in Portugal full-time (minimum 6-8 months / year) under the D7 visa.
How it works
Find a place to stay
You must have a place to live in Portugal already confirmed in order to apply for your visa. Proof of this will be required (such as a rental contract).
Apply in your home country
Visit the embassy in your home country to submit your visa application. You’ll then be invited to a biometrics appointment with the immigration authorities (SEF) within Portugal.
Move to Portugal
Once approved, it’s time to pack your bags! You’ll attend your biometrics appointment in-country and receive a residence card at your Portuguese address.
